The Polish Club Ashfield will be hosting the second iteration of Polish Book Club in the Amber Private Dining Room. This edition will be focusing on the theme of celebrating love and romance with a focus on Polish Poetry.
Join Ewelina Ellsmore as she delves into the timeless verses of two remarkable Polish poets, Adam Mickiewicz and Boleslaw Lesmian, exploring their captivating love poems that have endured through the ages. All text will be provided on the night.
The event will be an opportunity to immerse in the beauty of poetry but also engage actively in the art of creation. Each participant will have a chance to draft and craft a love poem, inspired by the themes and styles of the great masters.
Special guest Tomasz Cieślak from Poland will dial in to discuss poetry. To add to the ambiance of the evening, every participant of the Polish Book Club will be treated to a complimentary glass of Champagne courtesy of Artpay, celebrating the love and the joy of literary experiences.
As a prelude to the discussion and creative session, the group will be able to enjoy a short Poetry Recital "Love Poetry & Song" by Poetralia, setting the tone for an evening filled with inspiration, reflection, and lots of fun within the theme of love and romance.

Tomasz Cieślak (born 1966 in Łódź, Poland) – Polish literary scholar, Ph.D. humanities. In 1997, he defended his doctoral thesis: ‘Non-religious representations of God in the poetry of the interwar period’. In 2012, he obtained his habilitation on the basis of the work ‘New Polish poetry towards tradition. Relational reading.’ He works as a university professor at the Institute of Polish Philology and Speech Therapy. 2016–2020 he was vice-rector for student affairs.
He published the books: ‘In search of the Ultimate Secret. Sketches on Polish 20th century and recent literature’ (2009), ‘New Polish poetry in the face of its predecessors. Relational reading’ (2011), ‘Łódź. Sketches on literature, space and history’ (2023). He is also the co-author and editor of several collective books and dozens of scientific articles.
The subject of his research interests is 20th-century and recent Polish literature, literary criticism and regional literary life.
